The fool from the SDLP if he supports the NI protocol should be shouting from the roof tops at the EU to engage constructively with UK to protect NI Jobs Businesses to get normal trade between NI GB running smoothly work with the Joint Committee to ensure that the Protocol works properly but I doubt it.
Tough situation. Don’t pay any attention to the US, this is a UK thing. The US needs the UK there also anyway. The way things are going the US might not be much help in the future anyway. The UK is building a great future with like-minded nations around the world. The few givens are Northern Ireland is part of the UK and wants to remain that way. Ireland, not Northern Ireland, are the ones who wanted the open border. It isn’t up to Ireland or the EU to determine NI’s future. Agreements have to be amended from time to time. If they need a hard border they get a hard border. If they want war they shall have war. They might as well get on with it. If the UK rips up the deal, they can get their ships out of their waters, and pay tariffs on their cars. The trade imbalance works far in the UKs favor anyway. Morocco has already set up a new shipping system to go direct to the UK and the CPTPP can’t wait to have them join. Long term the UK will grow and lose their EU dependencies as private enterprise is already doing in the UK, and the EU will shrink as it has been doing. IPOs and investments are through the roof in the UK. The UK voted not to remain as the communist block’s Silver Tuna, and that’s that. By the end of the year, the lay of the land will be far different with the UK being in a much stronger position and the EU with a lot fewer cards to play against the UK, so the EU better get their licks in now.

But the EU haven’t even ratified the deal yet therefore how are we breaking the law?
