
Boris Johnson says he’ll ask US President Joe Biden to extend his 31 August deadline to leave Afghanistan when the two talk at the G7 virtual summit on Tuesday.
But the crisis has highlighted how little leverage the UK has to exert its influence in the region – and over the US.
If the US leaves Afghanistan on 31 August, the UK will have little choice but to follow.

I don’t think the Taliban can control all their factions if the US doesn’t leave as per their agreed timetable. Taliban are still a collection of warlords and i don’t think they can control all of their groups if they are seen negotiating with the “occupiers”
